The Bravest Thing That I Did In My Life
Apocalypse awaits me, Urgent my sorrow
Towards the undiscovered world that I
From warm responding flesh for a while

Sacrificing one’s life, thinking for the benefit of the many, conquering one’s fears connotation for someone to be called a brave man. When people hear the word bravery, often they would first think of people who are in our coins and bills, history books and monuments. Heroes, whom they are called. They are the ones who are considered a person of bravery. Bravery is not only what people do but also how they do it. Then again, bravery is something that a person has inside him and is never shown as an action at all. According to Rockefoufould, “True bravery is shown by performing without witness what one might be capable of showing all to the world.” People who do good only to get famous is not practicing bravery and it’s sad that we often misunderstood this aspects of bravery. Make wrong people famous and forgetting about others who show bravery throughout their lives.
I do not know if I have shown bravery or not in my life yet. I haven’t had any opportunities to save anyone or make a difference in the world. Yes, there had been times when I have to stood up for my beliefs or said what I thought was right when it meant that I might not get to do something. I think I’ve been brave in these situations but to talk about what I’ve done and compare it to the actions of Jesus Christ when he saved us and died on the cross and to the actions of my mother when she almost died giving birth and taking care of me, it was nothing.
Studying and standing with my virtues and principles in college even if I’m just a freshie, I think now is the bravest thing that I am doing. I can feel the cant-resist temptations so to speak- circling around me, many stimuli that is destructing my concentration and little by little eating up my motivation. Different people ad different attitudes that I need to adjust with, new environment that I need to adapt with. The stress and pressure with school is consuming my being, many trials and shortcomings with my peers and family and the people who sometimes get into my nerves and drive me nuts-The battles that I need to fight against and win. If I win, this will be the bravest battle I could ever be proud of, On the other side of my mind, I also think that the bravest battle that was ever fought; shall I tell to you where and when? On the maps of the world you will find it not; it was fought by the mothers of men. Our mother loves us so much that it cannot be compared with just a small tree, bonsai but for us to understand she definitely will.
Well, I must continue to wander this new phase in my life and discover the undiscovered world with faith and courage. Always bear in mind that I could never learn to be brave and patient, If there were only joy in the world as Helen Keller had said. There would always be challenges, trials, obstacles and hindrances in life. Take chances, Make mistakes. That is how we grow. Pain nourishes our courage. We have to fail in order to practice being brave. As the cliché goes, fear is not a factor.
>>Another assignment that I saw on my files. This was my assignment in my literature class during my first year, first semester. The instruction was to write about the bravest thing you did in your life with an excerpt from the previous stories that we have tackled(Bonsai and Six PM by Nick Joaquin). I think I got a 1.25 grade in that essay.=D
