instincts..

Today, I met my group mates (Deneb, Jazzy and Johann) for our project on PSTL (Principles and Strategies of Teaching and Learning). We went to Deneb’s dorm to brainstorm. Before meeting up with them, I arranged my things, I can’t help but stare at my umbrella and I don’t know why but I ignored it and didn’t bring my umbrella because it doesn’t fit anyway inside my bag. When we were almost done in doing our stuff, it unfortunately rained and I don’t have my umbrella—Great! X_X. I got wet and my feet are so dirty. Honestly, this happened to me twice in just two weeks. I always bring my umbrella with me but the time that I will leave it to our house it will also be the time to rain. What is my point in telling you all this? I know it doesn’t have any sense but for me there is.

What is a Human Instinct? Psychoanalysts have stated that instinct refers to human motivational forces (such as sex and aggression), sometimes represented as life instinct and death instinct. This use of the term motivational forces has mainly been replaced by the term instinctual drives. Additional human traits that have been looked at as instincts are: altruism, disgust, face perception, language acquisitions, “fight or flight” and “subjugate or be subjugated”.(www.wikipedia.org) (Subjugate: To bring under control; conquer.) We were all born with natural instinct. We cried when we were hungry – not because we were taught to, but because it was our instinctive response to our physical need. Emotion calls on instinct too (http://ezinearticles.com/). So basically, the thing I have whether I will bring my umbrella or not is a force that drives me to think without any reason but didn’t pay attention is INSTINCT. Instinct or Intuition is always piping on ourselves to follow the “vibes” or the “gut” in lay man’s term whenever we have decisions to make whether good or bad. I bet you have experienced it also. Instinct is insight based not on reason, but on awareness.

It depends on us whether to follow our instincts or not but sometimes instincts could be right. In my case, there are a lot of situations where I thought of something out of nowhere and suddenly it’s all true, I m right! Even if I don’t really know where that “thing” in my mind came from. Instincts come in simple form, you will know it yourself just like my experience above. You know what simple or little things can kill you, maybe not literally but they do. Well for me, I will follow my instincts especially if the vibes are strong and gives me a pounding heart. I bet you too should listen to it. Following your instincts should also be accompanied by thinking because if not, you will most probably just regret it. Everything should come in balance in this LIFE. We should know that.

By itself, instinct can be incredible. It’s what sparks our imagination, enables our creativity, and takes us to new heights. But although instinct can be a powerful ally sometimes it can be dangerously deceptive.

The next time I will do decisions I would go for the combination of the two: thinking and vibes. I now learned my lesson, a lesson which always knocks on me, long time ago but didn’t let it come in.

Bottom line is, trust your gut instinct; but also think things through. With that combination you’re probably making some pretty good decisions.

I m so happy that I spent my time with my new classmates and talk about our lives. In contrast, I discovered that the ringer of my cell phone doesn’t function anymore. I have to let it fix for 250php before anything gets worse. I have to save money… waaahh!!! Anyone wants to be my sponsor?

By the way, Happy 18th Birthday Clamy… my ever dearest, ever first college friend in the whole world. Hope to bond with you soon! Miss you!
