May 28: Philippine National Flag Day
When was the last time you stood by the flag and sang your own National Anthem?
May 28 is the Philippine National Flag Day.
During our grade school years, we were taught about the meaning of the Philippine Flag. Can you still remember its meaning and the rules to its use? I hope, yes.
As the modern time goes, people seem to forget…
Nowadays, our nationalism die away lots of thought are coming to me now. Maybe because people are striving to get their butts out of this country because let’s face it, it is hard to survive here (with the poverty and all). Maybe because they are so busy in making a living that is why they tend to forget, maybe because there isn’t any space in our system to store nationalism because there are “more” important things than that or maybe because they are just ashamed…
Sad but true, many people doesn’t know the answer when asked about our heroes, history, national flag and its anthem. Some of those facts I admit I can’t remember anymore but I see to it that every time the flag is raised, I stop and place my right hand in my chest where I can feel my heartbeat.
Do you still do it?
P.S
I didn’t know that it is Philippine National Flag Day until I watched TV Patrol. I also didn’t see flags displayed at buildings, etc. It should be until June 12 (Independence Day) right? Another proof that people forget…

I’d like to think that I’m a nationalist at heart. I will forever be amazed at the lack of respect our supposed civil servants, never mind that they stand in attention during flag ceremony.
For me, it really shouldn’t be hard practicing nationalism these days. I agree with Alex Lacson on that. The little things do count.
ei.. hai.. may I ask if do our Philippine national anthem mean and what do it express..?/
uhm, i think the answer to this “lacking” issue is in the eyes of our young ones..(I’m one of them). since this generation and the generation before it shows that we filipinos don’t know the truth of being a Filipino by heart, the answer, the key, is to focus on what we can contribute to these young individuals and let them know and learn by heart that “Philippines” is their homeland and they must learn the stuffs regarding these, by heart. hay naku! nakakadismaya that even the spelling of our own country is mispelled sometimes. it is, p-h-i-l-i-p-p-i-n-e-s. not PHILLIPINES!!
