Asia’s Titanic: The First Filipino-Produced National Geographic Documentary

asias-titanic

The first ever Filipino-produced National Geographic documentary, “Asia’s Titanic” directed by Yam Laranas will air on August 25, 2009 across Asia at 8:00 PM.

This full-length documentary is about the world’s worst peacetime maritime disaster, MV Doña Paz that collided with an oil tanker, MT Vector last December 1987, just five days before Christmas. For about 5,000 passengers only a few survived this unfavorable event.

In watching this documentary, you will see how the survivors painfully account the tragedy as it was reenacted. According to Andrew Roque (producer) and Yam Laranas (director), it took them 3 years to make this documentary and it really passed through an eye of a needle to be chosen by National Geographic among other foreign documentaries.

Maritime tragedies still continues to hit the Philippines however, as clarified by the producer and the team behind Asia’s Titanic that the documentary is not investigative but rather, an eye-opener for us all.

The first time I heard about this tragedy was when I attended one Red Cross training. My instructors were always using that as an example of mass casualty. I didn’t bother to search it up on the web and didn’t care.

It was shameful for me not to know about this though it happened years before I was born, it was only when I had an opportunity to be able to watch the premiere release of this documentary that I realized how catastrophic this event was. Then I said, “Ahh… yan pala yung Sulpicio na sinasabi nila…”. It opened my eyes to be socially concern about events that are happening in the country, not only that, but also in the whole world.

This documentary is another pride for us Filipinos.

So what are you waiting for… Mark your calendars on August 25, 8:00 PM and tune in at the National Geographic channel. Catch the replay on August 26, 2009 at 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM.

Kambal na Saging…

dsc01949

Sabi ng matatanda…

Kapag gusto mo maging kambal ang magiging anak mo…
Dapat daw kumaen ang buntis ng kambal na saging…

(If you want to have twins, pregnant woman should eat a twin banana…:])

This is just one of the numerous old sayings here in the Philippines. This is the first time that I saw a twin banana since I’ve ever known it. And so, I was fascinated and took a photo of it. Unfortunately, a part of it was rotten already…

Pinoy Twilight: Takipsilim FINAL UPDATE (“it’s a hoax…”)

So finally, ABS-CBN ended what they started.

“There is no truth to the Web reports, particularly in the Perez Hilton blogsite, that ABS-CBN is doing a local adaptation of “Twilight”. ABS-CBN will be the first to announce if it is, in fact doing so,” according to ABS-CBN Corporate Communications’ Bong Osorio.

Then there was LIGHT.

Pinoy Twilight: Takipsilim

After the Twilight movie craze, who would have thought that the Philippines would make a local version of Twilight?

Well… not me!

ABS-CBN already bought the copyright for a local re-make of the famous novel Twilight by Stephenie Meyer with a tentative title of “Takipsilim” staring Rayver Cruz as Edward Cullen and Shaina Magdayao as Isabella Swan. The series will be directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.

Here’s the full article.

There are a lot of blogs I’ve read about THE “Pinoy Twilight” as they would call it and so here are some of my sentiments about it:

• The first thing that I said when I heard the fuzz is like… “What the f*ck?!” I mean, could somebody slap me? harharhar…

• I have seen some posters in the web… I don’t know if that is the official… Nevertheless, I took it negatively because it is SOOOOO COPYCAT… tsk tsk! Just look for the difference.. hahaha!

• I don’t know if how are they going to make the scenes possible knowing that everything in the book is very foreign as well as the descriptions and everything.

• The question ISHow are they going to make those sugar-coated punch lines in Filipino without making it sound so cheesy and all?

• This is not to criticize him but I think Rayver Cruz is NOT suitable to play the role of Edward. Unless they are going to do a major make-over. (I can’t think of anyone else.. tsk) For those who have read the book, you know what I mean.

• Shaina Magdayao is just “OK” to play the role of Bella.

I am not satisfied with the movie, but I have trust with ABS-CBN in the production and all, I just wish they will not “edit” the story so much just to fit it to a Filipino setting

I am not a fan; I just feel I am involved because I have read THE saga.

• I hate THE title. Grrr…

• Who will play the other vampires? or even the wolves? hmmmm… think think think (I bet stars from PBB will be in. harhar)

• Who will sing the OST? Where will Edward’s meadow be???

• Will all the negative comments from all sorts of people, I hope ABS-CBN will give justice to the book. PLEASE! (I know Cathy Garcia-Molina will do a great job with all her blockbuster movies done… :])

• I wish the visual effects will not be so animated that it will look “really” fake.

With all the re-makes… I don’t know what else to comment…

With all the negative comments and those anti-Pinoy Twilights…

Sign this petition or let’s just wait and see… :]]

Do we really have to have our own version of those foreign stuffs? hmmmm…

I still go for the ORIGINAL…

(i mean the book.. :])

~thanks to popazrael and hushgossip for the pictures.

P.S
wala na tayong magagawa… nabili na ang rights… hahaha!
Goodluck harharhar!
